Primarily photographs of skiing and mountaineering expeditions, along with scenic views of the Cascade Range, the Olympic Mountains, and other natural areas in the western U.S., ca. 1924-1960. Most photos were taken by Watson, but there are also images by Bert Huntoon, Hermann Ulrichs, Ray Atkeson, Lawrence D. Lindsley, and E. Dagleish. The collection also includes postcards and ephemera.

Seattle-born Dwight Watson developed an interest in mountaineering in the 1920s while employed at the Puget Sound Power and Light Co. Watson explored scenic spots in the Cascade Range, Olympic Peninsula, British Columbia, and Oregon, and he made the first ski ascent of Glacier Peak with Sigurd Hall in 1938. Bert Huntoon was born in Sacramento, California, on February 6th, 1869, and at the age of 14 he moved with his family to Seattle. After completing a course in civil engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Troy, New York, Huntoon came back to Washington to begin his engineering career. Photographer, of Seattle, Wash. Lawrence Denny Lindsley (1878-1975) was the grandson of Seattle pioneer and entrepeneur David T. Denny, who arrived in Seattle in 1851 with the first party of the city's founders.
